Baumer has unveiled its new OT200 and OT330 time-of-flight (ToF) sensors, designed to advance sensing capabilities with specialized optics and algorithms. These new sensors aim to combine efficiency with performance in their respective housing classes.
The OT200 is presented as a compact time-of-flight sensor, featuring a blind zone range of less than 2 mm on ultra-black surfaces and an extended range of up to 2 meters in a miniature design. Both the OT200 and the slightly larger OT330 are designed for straightforward installation and reduced maintenance. The OT330 offers a longer range of up to 2.5 meters and is positioned as a versatile sensor for various applications, emphasizing its price-performance ratio.
These ToF sensors incorporate features intended to enhance user experience throughout the engineering process, including planning, installation, commissioning, and operation. These features include Baumer’s 3D CAD data with an integrated beam path, the qTarget feature for optical axis alignment, and the qTeach teaching function. SmartReflect variants, which function as light barriers without the need for a separate reflector, are designed to reduce total cost of ownership by eliminating reflector installation and maintenance. An Alignment Guide, a red LED beam, assists with infrared laser alignment. The infrared laser light source is highlighted for its reduced dependency on object color, surface, structure, ambient light, and its resilience against dust, smoke, and spray.
Time-of-flight sensors are suitable for detecting light-absorbing and reflective objects of various shapes and structures, such as solar cells or car tires. They are engineered to reliably detect object geometry from various angles and installation positions. The new Baumer ToF sensors, with their specialized optics and algorithms, are intended to improve this technology. Typical applications for these sensors are found in intralogistics, equipment engineering, and wafer and semiconductor production.
The introduction of the OT200 and OT330 sensors expands Baumer’s ToF portfolio with compact and efficient sensor options. The company now offers sensors with ranges from 0 to 2.5 meters, utilizing different light sources such as red laser and infrared laser, and available in various sizes and designs, from miniature to hygiene and wash-down compatible.
