Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC) has announced an agreement with Landis+Gyr to implement its Gridstream Connect solution, designed for advanced metering and grid management. This deployment will integrate Gridstream advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) meters and Revelo grid edge sensing devices, utilizing an RF Mesh IP network. Additionally, Landis+Gyr’s omni-carrier cellular communications will be used in more remote sections of WREC’s service area.
The new system is set to enhance WREC’s ability to manage its grid and interact with its members. “As our community continues to grow along Florida’s Nature Coast, we remain committed to delivering the resilient electric service our members depend on,” stated David Lambert, WREC’s General Manager. “By leveraging advanced data from across our system, we’re able to automate key processes, improve communication, and respond more quickly – helping us keep the lights on when it matters most.”
WREC serves over 270,000 connections in west-central Florida, including areas northeast of Tampa Bay and rural regions further east. The cooperative expects the new solution to improve outage notifications and response times, provide members with more detailed access to their energy information, and generally enhance services across its distribution network.
Mark Ortega, Director of Distribution Sales at Landis+Gyr, commented on the capabilities of the system: “Flexible grid management starts at the grid edge with the ability to stream high resolution current and voltage data and turn that data into actionable insights. WREC will benefit from the ability to analyze advanced power quality metrics and detect grid anomalies at the edge and immediately share that data with software applications that deliver proven benefits for both consumers and utilities.”
