Littelfuse Updates PTS647 Tactile Switches with Noise Reduction and Dust Protection

New variants of the compact PTS647 series offer enhanced performance for audio, industrial, and medical applications. By DA Staff / 21 Jul 2025

Littelfuse, Inc. has relaunched its PTS647 Series Surface-Mounted Tactile Switch, incorporating design upgrades focused on improved noise performance, durability, and dust resistance. These enhancements aim to make the PTS647 series suitable for applications requiring a compact size, low-noise output, and long-lasting tactile feedback.

The PTS647 Series measures 4.5 x 4.5 mm, designed for space-constrained PCB layouts. It is available in three heights and with actuation force options of 1.0N, 1.8N, and 2.5N. Depending on the configuration, the switches support up to 500,000 actuations and are designed to deliver consistent tactile feedback in compact devices.

Key design enhancements in the new variants include a redesigned actuator that prevents internal rotation and minimizes vibration-related noise, and a dome-sealing tape for improved dust resistance and mechanical stability.

Littelfuse developed these improvements in response to the needs of a wireless speaker manufacturer, where even slight switch vibrations could interfere with audio fidelity. The resulting noise-reduction feature is now integrated across the updated PTS647 line, identifiable by an “N” in the part number.

Max Shi, Global Product Manager, Tactile Switches at Littelfuse, stated, “The new PTS647 variants complement our existing range of miniature tactile switches, featuring noise reduction and extended lifecycles. They broaden our portfolio’s versatility, particularly for high-performance, noise-sensitive environments such as audio equipment and precision instruments.”

The PTS647 Series offers a compact footprint (4.5 x 4.5 mm) and low-profile options starting at 3.8 mm height. It provides a long operating life of up to 500,000 actuations and tactile reliability with a clear, consistent feel. The surface-mount design aims to simplify automated assembly, and the new variants offer low-noise performance, reducing unwanted switch vibration and acoustic interference, along with enhanced dust resistance.

Target markets and applications for the updated series include consumer electronics such as audio equipment, headsets, cameras, and imaging devices; industrial systems like telecom infrastructure, network equipment, and access control systems; and medical devices requiring quiet operation for monitoring and diagnostic interfaces.

The PTS647 Series will continue to coexist with original part numbers, offering flexibility between legacy configurations and the new low-noise variants. Within the expanded Littelfuse/C&K tactile switch portfolio, the PTS647 line is positioned as a compact and reliable choice for general-purpose designs, while the KSC Series provides a sealed, premium option for harsh or automotive environments.

The PTS647 Tactile Switches are available in tape and reel format, with quantities ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 units.
